This month we'll be featuring Somali cuisine at its best! Delicious recipes, products and food inspiration from Somalia. Kishki himself is from Somalia and is always introducing us to new dishes to taste from back home.
A few of our favourite Somali dishes:
Somali coffee - a delicious coffee recipe where coffee grinds are steeped in cinnamon and cardamom, mixed with milk and sweetened with sugar.
Braised goat meat - this hugely popular dish is served over Somali-style rice. Goat meat is braised in onions, garlic, spices, covered in water or stock and braised until tender.
Sambusa - this is the Somali version of the samosa, and is a popular fried snack filled with beef, green onions, chili peppers and spices.
Xalwo (halwa) - a beautifully sweet dessert that is perfect to pair with your coffee at the end of a meal. It is typically eaten on festive occasions and holidays. Traditionally made with sugar, ghee, cornstarch, cardamom, nutmeg and saffron, this is one little indulgence that must be tasted!
